Technology Selection Rationale and Advantages

This section explains the reasoning behind the technology choices made for DocuSnap-Frontend and the advantages these technologies bring to the application.

Jetpack Compose

Rationale: Traditional XML layout systems are complex and difficult to maintain, especially for complex UI interactions.

Advantages:

  • Declarative UI simplifies building complex interfaces
  • Built-in animation and state management
  • Seamless integration with Kotlin, improving development efficiency
  • Reduced boilerplate code, improving readability
  • Real-time preview, accelerating development iteration

MVVM Architecture

Rationale: Need for clear separation of UI, business logic, and data access.

Advantages:

  • Separation of concerns, improving code maintainability
  • Support for unit testing, improving code quality
  • Clear UI state management, reducing state-related bugs
  • Well-suited for data-driven application scenarios
  • Compatible with the Jetpack component ecosystem

Kotlin Coroutines

Rationale: Asynchronous operations (such as network requests, database access) need a concise handling approach.

Advantages:

  • Simplifies asynchronous programming, avoiding callback hell
  • Structured concurrency, making lifecycle management easier
  • Combined with Flow, supports reactive programming
  • Reduces the complexity of thread management
  • Improves code readability and maintainability

Room Database

Rationale: Need for reliable local data storage and offline functionality support.

Advantages:

  • Type-safe data access
  • Compile-time SQL validation
  • Seamless integration with Kotlin Coroutines and Flow
  • Simplified database migration
  • Support for complex queries and relationship mapping

CameraX

Rationale: Need for stable, consistent camera experience while simplifying camera operations.

Advantages:

  • Simplifies camera lifecycle management
  • Cross-device consistency
  • Built-in common use cases (preview, photo capture, video recording)
  • Integration with Jetpack lifecycle components
  • Support for image analysis and extension features

These technology choices reflect a careful consideration of the application’s requirements, modern Android development best practices, and the need for a maintainable, efficient, and user-friendly application.
